CyberScout.Net Networking Guide!

Where to start from?
Ok, here we go and start to learn Networking from zero. Some or most of the readers would not really require this basic study information about networking but keeping the fact in view that this site is for everybody, I have to start from basics. You always have the choice to skip the topic and move to the next one select a topic of your interest by yourself. To those who are networking experts and want to criticise me not using too many technical terminologies, I just want to request that all I have tried to do here is that to explain computer and networking related issues in as easy words as possible. Hope you enjoy.
Introduction To Computer Networking:
Just as the name describes itself, it is a system consisting of many(more then one) computers connected to one another using different mediums such as cable wireless etc. The main and popular purpose of a Computer Network is to transfer data from one point to another point or you can say from one computer to another computer. This data can be simple text, pictures or graphics, audio or video etc. The networks are laid using different topologies such as Mesh, Star, Bus, Ring. I don't think that in this section you really need to go more in detail to topologies, and here I will explain one still popular topology only that is Star Topology.
You can see a small Star Topology network on the right. Notice that all devices are connected directly only to a central hub. In Star there is no direct or dedicated point-to-point link between the devices, so all the data is sent and received through the controller only, which acts as an exchange. Each device requires just one link and one I/O port to connect to any number of other devices in Star topology the main advantages of this topology are:
Star Topology
  • Each device needs only one link and one I/O port to connect to any number of devices
  • Fault identification and Fault isolation, as only one link gets affected if there is a problem as long as the hub is working
  • Easy to install and configure
  • More reasonable cost as compared to topologies like Mesh
LAN
(Local Area Network)
MAN
(Metropolitan Area Network)
WAN
(Wide Area Network)
